Tan Swie Hian

Born 1943 in Indonesia and educated in Singapore, Tan Swie Hian graduated from the Department of Modern Languages and Literature of Nanyang University in 1968. He is now a citizen of Singapore.

Before venturing into the field of visual arts, Tan Swie Hian earned his fame through literary writings and established himself as the leading light of the modernist Chinese literature in Singapore following the publication in 1968 of his first poetry anthology The Giant, the first of its genre in the country. In 1973, Tan held his first solo exhibition Paintings of Infused Contemplation at the National Library. Since then, he has been a prolific multidisciplinary artist whose works extend across multiple mediums, genres, languages and subject matters. In 2003 TIME magazine in a feature described him as “Singapore’s Renaissance Man”.

Recognised as a cultural icon in Singapore and the top-grossing living artist in Southeast Asia, Tan Swie Hian has so far published 60 works of literary and artistic creations, held 25 solo shows worldwide and won 29 accolades nationally and internationally.

陈瑞献于1943年在印度尼西亚出生,在新加坡受教育,1968年毕业于南洋大学现代语言学系,现为新加坡公民。

在涉足视觉艺坛以前,陈瑞献以文艺创作声名远播,他于1968年出版的诗集《巨人》,是本国第一部现代诗集,奠定他在新加坡华文现代文学领域的领导作家地位。1973年,陈瑞献在国家图书馆举行第一次个展《冥想画展》,自此成为一位作品丰硕的多媒体艺术家,创作跨越多元媒体、类型、语文及题材。2003年,美国《时代周刊》在一篇专文中,称颂他为“新加坡的文艺复兴人”。

公认为新加坡的一位文化偶像与东南亚笔润最高的在世艺术家,陈瑞献迄今已出版60部文学与艺术作品集,在世界各地举办了25次个展,并荣获29项国家级与国际级的奖勋。
