Dr. Lau Wai Har

Dr. Lau Wai Har is the author of The Plaster and I. Dr. Lau Wai Hai is a bilingual educationist in Singapore. She received a Chinese education from primary to secondary stage, and completed her tertiary education in England. In a career spanning 30 years, she has been teacher, teacher educator, head of department, vice-principlal, Director of the Institute of Education, and Project Director for Confucian Ethics.
Between 1949 and 1951, Dr. Lau suffered from T.B in the Spine and was immoilished in a plaster bed. During the 3 years in hosipital, she managed to take and pass half of the university course. Her book “The Plaster and I” described the 3 years of her unusual experience in in English sanatorium.

Since her retirement, she has been an active volunteer for the educationally subnormal children and also for the elderly. From 1990 to 2005, she wrote as a columnist for Lianhe Zaobao, the local Chinese daily, where she contributed regularly commentaries on educational, social, cultural and moral issues of the day.
